Summerville and Trion firefighters provided assistance during a Friday morning fire taking place in Walker County.
A Friday morning fire at the “Buy the Truck” business located on south Chattanooga Street in Lafayette resulted in a dozen people having to be treated for smoke inhalation.
Of those, two people were critically hurt by the smoke while four others were treated at the scene.
The fire call went out just before 10:30am with fire departments from Lafayette, Walker County, Walker County Correctional, Rossville, Ft Oglethorpe, Catoosa County, Summerville and Trion all responding.
Buy the Truck makes and distributes flooring products including wood flooring and carpet padding, and the building reportedly contained Polyurethane and Latex, both of which can produce toxic fumes when burned.
Damage was primarily contained to the southeast corner of the building.
The State Fire Marshal is reportedly conducting an investigation into the cause of that fire.
A team from the State EPD also inspected the scene in an effort to “filter” the water runoff before it drained into Town Creek.
