The weather across northwest Georgia, caught pretty much everyone by surprise Thursday morning with a brief mixture of rain, sleet and even snow affecting the area primarily in the upper elevations.

As a precautionary measure, Superintendent Jimmy Lendermen sent all the students which reside in the Cloudland area home early.

Buses began their routes taking those children home shortly after 11:00am, with all classes otherwise operating on regular scheduled.

Sending children living in the upper elevations home early was a safety measure, due to the threat of severe road conditions possibly forming later.
