On March 9th at about 7:42pm a 9-1-1 call was made to Ft Payne Police Department and the caller stated a shooting had occurred at Wal-Mart. Officer’s arrived and found an armed male with gunshot wounds in the parking lot of Wal-Mart.
The other party involved in the incident was also still at the scene.
Charles Taft Pope, age 33 of Ft Payne – was transported to Dekalb Regional Medical Center, for the gunshot wounds, and later air-lifted to Erlanger Medical Center, Chattanooga, TN, where he underwent emergency surgery. The other subject was detained at the scene and transported to the Ft Payne Police Department where he cooperated with the investigation.
After interviewing him and conferring with the District Attorney, no charges have been filed against him at this time.
After interviews with the parties involved and witnesses, it appears the incident was Domestic related.
The entire incident occurred outside in the parking lot of Wal-Mart and was unrelated to the business itself or any employees.
The case is still an ongoing investigation.
