The Chattooga County Agricultural Fair was the featured at the local Chamber of Commerce’s meeting yesterday, and was one of many upcoming events the chamber discussed. Click ‘read more’ for a summary of the meeting.

The Chattooga County Agricultural Fair, coming Aug 24-27 at the County Ag. Center, was the featured speaker of the local Chamber of Commerce’s meeting yesterday. Fair Committee Vice President Zach Hughes outlined the fair’s main attractions, including livestock shows, musical entertainment, and Blue Ribbon competitions.

Livestock Shows, Competitions

The fair is scheduled to hold a 4-H/FFA poultry show and auction at 6PM on Aug 24, as well as a 4-H/FFA Junior Market Goat Show at 6 PM on the 25th. Then on the 26th, there will be a market hog preview show at 2 PM and 4-H/FFA Junior Beef Show at 4 PM. Finally, on the 27th, there will be a 4-H/FFA Junior Dairy Show at 2 PM.

The fair also hosts several Blue Ribbon contests every day of the fair in a variety of areas, including food preservation, photography, needlework, and more. more information can be found at https://www.chattoogafair.com/blue-ribbon

Entertainment

The fair will feature musical entertainment every night, with J. Scott Thompson at 7 PM on the 24th; Little Known Letter at 7 and James Otto at 9 PM on the 25th; South of Heaven at 7 and the Kentucky Headhunters at 9 PM on the 26th; and a gospel singing 4-9 PM on the 27th. As many as 20 groups are expected to perform on the 27th.

Hughes went on to say that the midway was by far the fair’s main attraction.

Volunteers

Secretary-Treasurer Kristin Croy encouraged volunteering at the fair, either individually or as part of a group. Croy said that greeters and ticket collectors are still needed to man the two entrances at the fair necessary to keep traffic low, in addition to needing volunteers at the Information Desk/Lost-and-Found. She added that it is a good opportunity to meet people, given that the fair sold 6,707 tickets in 2015, and 7,117 in 2016.

Thursday, Aug 24: 5PM-10PM

Friday, Aug. 25: 5PM-MDNT

Saturday, Aug. 26: 2PM-MDNT

Sunday, Aug. 27: 2PM-9PM

Gate admission is $5. Thursday night will be free to students and children, and Friday night will be free to all military personnel with proof of military identification.

Admission for the 27th is free all day, thanks to funding from the the Town of Trion. Musical entertainment and parking are both free.

A free, public one-day fair called ‘Denim Days’ will be held in Trion on September 9th. More information forthcoming.

Mommy-Baby Palooza, Western Heritage Festival

Susan Locklear announced that the city of Summerville will have a program on the 19th at the Summerville depot from 9AM-4PM for expecting families and families of younger children to provide resources and child entertainment, including a teddy bear parade, balloon art, and a miniature train that will arrive at 1.

In addition, the city will host a Western Heritage Festival at the depot on Sep 2 from 9AM-4PM to celebrate the heritage and culture of the American West. It will include chuck wagon cooking, pony rides, blacksmith demonstrations, and more.
