UPDATE: SUSPECT NOW IN CUSTODY

The suspect sought in the deputy shooting captured in Polk County, Georgia. Active warrants are also pending for Seth B. Spangler in Walker County, GA for a probation violation.  Authorities say Spangler was captured after one police officer was shot and killed and another injured in Polk County on Friday. A Polk County police officer said that a female police detective was fatally wounded. A bullet struck a male officer’s bulletproof vest and that officer survived, authorities said.

Earlier Today:

A Polk County Sheriff’s Deputy was shot and killed this morning while investigating a stolen vehicle report; another deputy was shot in their bullet proof vest and uninjured, according to reports.  Floyd County K9 units and Chattooga County deputies are assisting Polk County in the search for a male suspect that fled the scene.  A female suspect was taken into custody.  The incident happened near Santa Claus Mountain and John Redding Road between Cave Spring and Cedartown. The GBI has been called in to assist.  Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader is also in Polk County assisting authorities in the search for the suspect. We will have more information as it develops.
