According to Tax Commissioner Joy Cooper Hampton, all property tax bill should be in mailboxes by now.

In a post on her official Facebook, Hampton said that all county residents should have their property tax bills by now, and that the deadline to have the complete bill paid is Dec 20. However, residents do not have to pay all at once; they can pay in installments of any size as long as the full bill is paid by the deadline.

Additionally, though the deadline for getting exemptions on this year’s bull has passed, residents can apply for exemptions on next year’s bill on the first of January. Hampton says the Assessor’s Office handles exemptions, but her office is happy to answer any questions the public may have. She especially encourages disabled veterans to seek information on getting exemptions on their property tax bill, as it can greatly reduce the bill and play a very small part in repaying them for their sacrifice to their country.

Hampton’s full statement:

Everyone should have received their property tax bill by now. Taxes are due December 20th, but it is acceptable to break it up into payments, as long as they’re paid in full by the 20th. Just remember, any amount not paid by the due date will accrue interest and penalties.

It is too late to apply for exemptions this year, but feel free to come in January 1st – April 1st of next year to apply for any exemptions you qualify for. The Assessors Office normally handles exemptions, but I am always happy to answer any questions you may have about exemptions! In addition to that, if you are a disabled veteran or know someone who is PLEASE help me to notify them that there is help available. Certain disabled veterans can qualify for an exemption that greatly reduces their bill. I was heartbroken this week when I met with one of our veterans who is unable to work and is struggling to pay his tax bill. Chances are, he could qualify for an exemption that would make his bill more manageable, but it was too late this year. Help me help our disabled veterans- send them to see me! They must be a DISABLED VETERAN with the corresponding paperwork.

I am enjoying the chance I have been given to serve our citizens, and I am so grateful to all my supporters!
