Following a nearly six-week investigation, the Calhoun Police Department arrested 18-year-old Ft. Payne, AL man Cody Gibson Thursday, charging him with assaulting his 1-year-old daughter.
Reports say that on August 5 around 9:30 PM, officers were dispatched to a gas station in Calhoun regarding an infant who had sustained a serious leg injury. When the officers arrived, they were informed the child had been transported to Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton for treatment.
Officers met with the child’s adoptive father, 18-year-old Cody Gibson of Ft. Payne, AL. Gibson admitted to the officers that he may have slammed the child into her car seat a bit too hard and caused the injury.
Calhoun Police Chief Tony Pyle said that “at this stage in the investigation, the evidence points to intentional excessive force inflicted on the child by Gibson as the cause of the injury”.
Gibson faces charges of cruelty to children and aggravated battery, a felony.
