Georgia Northwestern Technical College has partnered with Pieper O’Brien Herr Architects, Alpharetta, to develop the college’s five year master plan. This is the first master plan to be developed since Coosa Valley Technical College and Northwestern Technical College merged in July 2009. `Pieper O’Brien Herr will evaluate all the campuses and available land and prepare a master plan for the campuses,` stated Jeff King, Provost, Georgia Northwestern Technical College. The plans call for development of a long range vision for the future and a three year phasing plan for the near term.

A 38 year old Alpharetta based planning, architecture, interior design, and graphics firm, Pieper O’Brien Herr Architects has a strong background in higher education facility planning and design, as well as a solid working knowledge of the Technical College System of Georgia’s requirements for facilities master plans.

The master plan will take approximately six months to complete and will include all current facility assets, as well as help define the future growth of each campus. The plan will take into account the planned educational needs and campus life amenities desired for an enriched student experience for the next several years. As a part of the process GNTC will gain an electronic inventory of facility assets on each of the campuses, a tool for GNTC’s use in planning class schedules and facility needs on a daily basis.

“We will use this plan to present future capital requests made to the Technical College System of Georgia,” added King.

Georgia Northwestern Technical College serves Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Floyd, Gordon, Polk, and Walker counties in Georgia with campuses located in Floyd, Gordon, Polk, and Walker counties. Approximately 16,000 people benefit from GNTC’s credit and noncredit programs, making it the largest college in Northwest Georgia and the fifth largest technical college in Georgia.
