This weekend will be the only weekend you can celebrate German traditions and old-timey Southern American Sunday dinners back-to-back. Oktoberfest and the Old-Fashioned Sunday Dinner will be held at the historic Summerville train depot on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Oktoberfest at the Depot – October 20

The sights, smells, and sounds of the German traditions will be found at the Summerville Depot on Saturday, October 20. Hours for the festivities will be from 11 AM–3 PM. Admission and parking is free for this event.

Oktoberfest will include traditional local foods, along with an array of Oktoberfest traditions such as: bratwurst, fudge and other German inspired foods. Also on hand will be Dixie Kettle Corn with kettle corn, apple butter, boiled peanuts, Small Town BBQ, T&T Sweet Treats, Avans Concessions with deep fried corndogs, fried Oreos, and more and Cutie Cones with ice cream, hotdogs, and nachos. Bob Kelley Photography, along with local artist Cindy Teems Clark and other craft vendors will highlighted in the market.

The miniature train will be on site for children’s fun, along with opportunities to participate in “The Chicken Dance.” Festival attendees are welcomed to sport German wear and take photos at the photo booth area for extra fun.

Old-Fashioned Sunday Dinner at the Depot – October 21 & October 28

Old Fashioned Sunday Dinner At The Depot offers the opportunity to step back in time to a slower pace of life and enjoy a Sunday lunch at the Historic Summerville Depot. Servers and staff will be dressed in old fashioned attire and event goers will have the opportunity to enjoy an “Old Fashioned Sunday Dinner” while enjoying live music. Hours for the Old Fashioned Sunday

Dinner are 11:30 AM–2:30 PM. Admission is free. Indoor seating will be available on a first come-first serve basis. The meal will be served by Sweet P’s At The Tavern at the cost of $8.00 for a meat and 2 vegetables, or $6.00 for a 4 vegetable plate. Bowls of pinto beans and cornbread will also be offered at the cost of $3.00. There is a 1 PM scheduled arrival of the train with passengers and a turning of the Summerville Turntable at each Sunday event.

Oktoberfest Market and Old Fashioned Sunday Dinner are part of the “Steam Into Summerville Railroad Days” celebration, held in honor of the fall arrivals of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum Passenger Trains. Weekly train arrivals during October – mid November are scheduled for 1 PM. The Summerville Turntable can be observed in action during each arrival.
