Whitney Shepherd was brilliant in the circle on Thursday, as she threw a no-hitter to lead Trion High School Softball past Emmanuel County Institute 8-0. Trion got on the board in the first inning, when an error scored one run for the Lady Bulldogs.

Trion scored four runs in the third inning, with their big bats led by Shelby Carlock’s single, Tianna Youngblood’s single, and Janie Emery’s double. Shepherd led things off on the rubber, and allowed zero hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out all five. E. Tabor led things off in the pitcher’s circle for Emmanuel Co. Institute. She surrendered eight runs on eight hits over four innings, striking out one.

Trion totaled eight hits in the game. Carlock and Bailey Coker each ranked up multiple hits for Trion, and Carlock took three hits in three at bats. Carlock also had the most chances in the field, with five. Trion didn’t commit a single error in the game.

The no-hitter game was the second in a pair of matches between Trion and Emmanuel. The first game Trion took, 12-2. Trion led with an eight-run first inning, with an offense headed by Jodie Henderson, Shelby Carlock, Chloe Murdock, Darrian Jones, and Gracie Burns all knocking in runs. An error scored one run for the Lady Bulldogs as well.

Shepherd got the game going when she surrendered two runs on si hits over five innings, striking out seven. Z. Edenfield was on the rubber for Emmuel, going five innings and allowing 12 runs on nine hits and striking out one. Trion collected nine hits in total, with Carlock and Jones responsible for two each.

Trion didn’t commit any errors during the game, and Carlock had the most chances in the field, with eight. A. Hook went 2-for-3 at the plate, giving Emmanuel Co. Institute the lead in hits.
