A county sheriff’s deputy responded to a call from a Georgia Forestry Commission ranger last Tuesday about a possible stolen utility trailer.

Mr. Dean Cornett, the Rank Three ranger who made the call, is the supervisor of the Hwy. 27 forestry station in Summerville. Ranger Cornett called 9-1-1 when he and his employees discovered a utility trailer was missing while doing their routine equipment inventory.

Cornett said that they searched the surrounding area without any luck, and that the trailer was seen last on the Thursday prior while it was undergoing maintenance. Based on the station’s hours, Cornett believes the theft occurred between that Thursday evening and the following Monday morning.

The trailer is a black tag-along type trailer. It is 18-ft. long by 8-ft. wide and has a wooden bed. The numbers 58029 are painted on its right side, which are used by the forestry commission. The ramps were cut off the back by the rangers, leaving fresh cut marks in the metal which may still be visible. It had a large black plastic tool box mounted on the trailer’s tongue and a spare tire with a white rim mounted to the right side.

Ranger Cornett said that the trailer had a trailer ball lock attached, which must have been cut or torn off.
