The 2018 season for the Lady Dogs came to a close last Saturday as they were defeated by the Gordon Lee Trojans and the Bowdon Red Devils in the Final Four Round of the  State Championship. These games remained competitive throughout, and the Varsity Girls never lost faith in their team.

The game against Bowdon sealed the fate for the Lady Dogs in a heartbreaking 5-0 defeat. Whitney Shepherd managed to strikeout one and pitched all seven innings. Trion totaled four hits in all, one each from Darrian Jones, Shelby Steele, Gracie Burns, and Tianna Youngblood. A bright spot for the Lady Dogs was a single from Jones in the fifth inning. Other than that single, the Varsity Girls did not have much success at bat.

The game against school rival, Gordon Lee, was even more heart wrenching with a 2-0 loss. Shepherd’s pitching was strong with two strikeouts and zero walks in six innings. The batting success was similar to that of the Bowdon game; only two hits were made, one from both Jenna Mosley and Chloe Murdock. The only single from the Lady Dogs was in the first inning from Mosley.

The Elite Eight game was a battle of the bulldogs in which Trion came out on top with a 15-2 win over Lanier County. Shepherd pitched an exemplary game with five strikeouts. The Lady Dogs started their dominant performance in the first inning with two home-runs, one from each Murdock and Burns, allowing three scores. The Trion girls tallied up an impressive fourteen hits during the game with multiple coming from Burns, Mosley, Youngblood, and Carlock. This game was the final win for the Lady Dogs this season, and a decisive one at that.

The Trion Girls finish the season with an impressive 20-7 record and a third place finish at state. The Lady Dogs once again made the town of Trion proud with their extraordinary performances throughout the entirety of the season.
