A 21-year old Rome man was jailed Thursday on charges of theft by taking and theft by taking a motor vehicle.

According to Floyd County Jail records, Gordon Ray Allmon of a South Heathrow Drive address stole a car from a Cave Spring man and then damaged it.

There was also a firearm in the car that belonged to the victim.

The report states that when Allmon saw a police car, he turned onto Cunningham Road from Cave Spring Road in a reckless manner, causing him to lose control for a moment.

Allmon lost control in some gravel and crashed into some phone pedestal towers.

He then ignored police commands to stop and had to be tackled to the ground.

Police say there was also a firearm in the car that belonged to the victim.

Allmon is also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, obstruction of officers, reckless driving, duty upon striking a fixture and a probation violation.
