The Georgia Department of Corrections is keeping a running list of active COVID-19 cases at the state’s correctional facilities.  As of Sunday, there have been a total of 196 cases of COVID-19 among the prison population of Georgia’s prisons.  In addition, there have been seventy-eight Georgia Department of Correction’s staff members diagnosed with the coronavirus. 

The Department of Corrections says that six prisoners have died from COVID-19.  No employees of the Georgia Department of Corrections are listed as fatalities.

So far, there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 at Hays State Prison in Chattooga County.  Autry State Prison in Pelham, Georgia (Mitchell County) has reported a total of 57 cases – 53 of those being prisoners and 4 being staff members.  Other prisons with high numbers of COVID-19 cases include Lee State Prison in in Leesburg, Georgia (Lee County) and Johnson State Prison in Wrightsville, Georgia (Johnson County).

Johnson State Prison has had the highest number of coronavirus deaths.  Eleven prisoners have died there, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections.
