The Chattooga County Registrar Office says that they have received over 1,700 absentee ballots and over 550 people have voted early in the June 9th Primary.
This year’s Primary Election has been fraught with changes and delays. First, the Presidential Preference Primary was delayed back in March. Early voting had already started, which means some Chattooga County voters had already cast their ballots. Then, that election was put on hold due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Later, the decision was made to combine the Presidential Preference Primary with the General Primary Election that was slated for May….but that was also put on hold due to shelter-in-place orders that were still in place.
Now, both elections will be held on June 9th. So that means everyone won’t see the same ballots. If you already voted in the Presidential Preference Primary, you won’t see those races on the ballot you choose for the June 9th Primary. There is still time to request an absentee ballot if you don’t want to go by the Registrar Office and vote in person, but those ballots must be back by 7 PM on June 9th.
Also, Summerville City voters have a special municipal election to fill a vacant city council seat coming up on June 9th. Voting for that race will take place at Summerville City Hall.
Voters are also being reminded that they can vote tomorrow- the only Saturday early voting day for the June 9th Primary. All early voting takes place at the Chattooga County Registrar Office located on Commerce Street, just south of the Chattooga County Courthouse. You will be able to vote on Saturday from 9 AM until 4 PM.
Be sure to bring a picture ID when you come to vote.
