Superior Court Judge Ralph VanPelt has issued a judgment on behalf of the Chattooga County Election Superintendent Jon Payne to allow the combining of several polling precincts for the upcoming June 9th Primary.
The judgment means that with the exception of Dirrtown (Gore), Haywood and Summerville – all other precincts in the county will be voting at one of four locations. Alpine (Menlo) and Cloudland will be voting at the Menlo School Gym. Coldwater, Lyerly, Seminole and Dirtseller will be voting at the Lyerly School Gym. Subligna voters will move from the Subligna Volunteer Fire Department to the facilities at Subligna Baptist Church. Pennville, Teloga and Trion will be voting at the Trion Elementary/Middle School Gym.
Election Superintendent Jon Payne made the request in Superior Court due to current COVID-19 social distancing restrictions and the lack of enough available poll workers to man the county’s thirteen voting precincts.
Early voting continues through Friday of this week at the Chattooga County Registrar Office. As of Monday the Registrar Office had received 1,844 absentee ballots. On Saturday, there were 107 voters who cast their ballots bringing the total number of early voters to 813 as of Monday.
