Today is Primary Election Day in Chattooga County. Polls will be open today from 7 AM until 7 PM. WZQZ News will have live Primary Election Night Coverage starting at 6:45 PM on 99.1 FM and AM 1180 with Ben Groce and Bonnie Fletcher. We will also be updating returns online on our Facebook Page and web site. Election Superintendent Jon Payne says that voters and candidates should remember several things:
- Bring a picture ID when you come to vote
- No campaigning within 150 feet of the corners of any polling place
- No campaign signs within 150 feet of any polling place includes caps, t-shirts, signs on vehicles – no campaign logos of any kind
Also, Judge Payne says that the Secretary of State is allowing absentee ballots to be counted earlier than normal this year. Chattooga County Election workers will begin opening absentee ballots at noon today. Observers from both political parties and campaigns will be allowed to watch the ballots being opened. However, there is only one person allowed per party or candidate. Observers may not bring cell phones and may only observe the ballots being opened.
Remember, polling places have changed for many voters in Chattooga County:
The only three polling places that won’t be affected are the Summerville, Dirttown and Haywood Precincts. Dirttown voters will be able to use the Gore Fire Hall because it is larger and voters can maintain social-distancing protocol. Haywood Precinct voters will be voting at Ebeneezer Baptist Church.
Subligna voters will move from the Subligna Fire Hall to Subligna Baptist Church.
Seminole, Dirtseller, Coldwater and Lyerly will be voting at the Lyerly Elementary School Gym. Voters in Cloudland and Alpine will be voting at the Menlo Elementary School Gym. Meanwhile voters from Teloga and Pennville and Trion will be voting at the Trion Middle School Gym.
