State Senator Jeff Mullis (R-Chickamauga) has retained his seat after one of the stiffest challenges he has faced since he was first elected state senator. The long tenured senator was challenged by political newcomer Todd Noblitt, an insurance salesman and State Representative Colton Moore (R-Rising Fawn), who is the youngest serving state legislator in Georgia.
Mullis had a huge political war chest to spend and was forced to spend some of that money to defend his seat. Moore, who entered the race late, was not able to force a runoff in the Primary Election on Tuesday. The campaign took a nasty tone over the past several weeks with Mullis and Moore hurling insults and accusations at each other in televised debates in Walker County. A campaign event for Senator Mullis was hosted in Chattooga County, and while all three candidates visited Chattooga County, neither Moore nor Noblitt held any events in the county.
The final vote tally was:
Mullis – 54.7%
Moore – 34.7%
Noblitt – 10.6%
