Correction: Today’s ceremony will start at 2 PM.  An earlier version of this story said 11 AM.

A ceremony today at the Chattooga County Memorial Home will honor one of Chattooga County’s local remaining World War II Veterans, Mr. Hoyt Williams.

Mr. Williams is well known for his many years in retail business in Chattooga County and for his current job at Wal-Mart, where he has worked for the past twenty-five years.  Mr. Williams was part of the 465th Engineering Company of the United States Army during the D-Day invasion in Normandy, France in June of 1944.

The ninty-six-year-old veteran will be honored at the service that gets underway at 2 PM.   Attendance at the event is limited due to social-distancing requirements, according to organizers.

The event was put together by local veteran advocates Odell Anderson and Barbara Massey Reece.
