The Summerville City Council met on Monday of this week and much of the city council’s agenda was taken up with the ongoing water crisis that has plagued the city since the EPD notified the city earlier this year that the city’s water supply didn’t meet Federal standards.

Since that time, the city has been working on solutions to deal with the problem.  Right now, the city is focused on two wells that are being drilled that will serve to dilute the city’s water supply coming out of Raccoon Creek.  The city plans to pipe the water to the water filter plant and get the water within Federal Standards.

Also, the city is installing a carbon filter system at the water treatment plant.

All of this comes with a hefty price-tag.

But there was good news for the City of Summerville this week when they received word that a loan request of $1.25 million was approved by GEFA – the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority.  The loan is at a low 2.44% interest rate.

City officials say that all the money will be used on the ongoing water project.
