After ten days under a “boil water order”, customers of the Chattooga County Water District said Saturday afternoon that the water is now safe to use.
For the past ten days, the county water district has dealt with a problem at Chattooga County Water District Well No. 7, located in the Butler Dairy Road area. The well provides water for all of the customers east of Taylor’s Ridge along with some customers in the Lyerly Water District area. Customers in Summerville were also affected because the city was buying water from the county to supplement the area serviced by Low Springs. The City of Summerville stopped using the water towards the end of last week.
The Chattooga County Water District issued the following statement on Saturday afternoon: The boil water advisory from the Chattooga County Water District has been lifted. Latest test samples are negative for the previous contamination. Thank you for your patience over the past 10 days. The areas that were under advisory may continue using water as normal.
The well had fecal contaminants which prompted the boil water advisory. The EPD said that the water was fine for customers to use once it had been treated by the Chattooga County Water District, but issued the boil water advisory as a precaution.
