It looks like Georgia’s unemployment outlook is slowly improving, at least according to the numbers released for July for Northwest Georgia Counties.

The Georgia Department of Labor released the numbers on Thursday of last week.  Most counties in the Northwest Georgia region saw a decrease in unemployment – with three notable exceptions: Floyd, Gordon and Whitfield Counties had slight increases.

The Rome -area jobless rate went up one-tenth of a percentage point for a rate of 7.1%.  In Whitfield County the unemployment went from 7.5% in June to 7.9% in July.  Gordon County’s unemployment rate went from 5.8% to 5.9% for the month of July

Walker County saw a decrease from 5% to 4.8%.

The numbers for July looked good for Chattooga County.  In June the unemployment was 10.3% and fell to 8.7% in July.

Reports of layoffs at Mount Vernon Mills could have an impact on August numbers in Chattooga County when those numbers are released next month by the Georgia Department of Labor.
