Next week, Chattooga County school students will return to a four-day, in-class, school week.  Students were off yesterday due to Labor Day.

When the Chattooga County Board of Education voted to go back to a five-day school week in January of 2019, there were quite a few people who were upset with that decision.  The Board of Education heard from angry parents and community members, but voted for the measure 4-1.  Then the COVID-19 pandemic came in March of 2020 and disrupted class for several months.  When school started back at the end of July, students were still on the five-day schedule.  Then, in a move that surprised some, on September 14th of this year, the board voted to return to four-days in class and one day of online instruction for all students.

“All school employees will work on Monday. Transportation, teachers, para pros, lunch room staff, etc. Monday’s will be something like three hours of planning lessons for the week, and two hours of training for teachers on how to do virtual lessons. And also allow time for cleaning and contacting virtual only students”, that according to Chattooga County Board of Education Chairman Eddie Elsberry.

The four-day week will last for the remainder of the first semester.
