The last day for collecting Census data for the 2020 Census will be Sept 30, 2020.
The head count number achieved by that date will be the number that Chattooga County and its four municipalities will have to work with for the next ten years.
This means the allocation of funds for a wide range of programs, including transportation, education, and medical programs like Medicare will be based on this headcount. Obviously, we do not want to be under-counted.
As of September 19, 2020, Georgia is sixth from last among the states in terms of percent total count completed, standing at 90%. That means across Georgia, the last 10% of the work must be completed before September 30. The North Georgia area still has 18.5% of its follow-up/enumeration/ doors-to-knock-on work to complete. Any households that can be motivated to self-respond via the online link or phone, the less work the door-knockers will have to do.
Where does Chattooga County fit in? We are at 52.3%, which is well below the state rate of 61.7%, which is lagging way behind the national rate.
