A thirty-year-old LaFayette man wound up in the Chattooga County jail after a traffic stop shortly after midnight on Thursday.

According to a report from the sheriff’s office, a deputy on patrol stopped a car on Highway 48 near Mahan Road after the driver weaved over the fog line several times.  As the deputy was speaking with the driver he noticed that the passenger, identified as James Gerald Whitmore, was acting nervous.

The deputy asked Whitmore if he had anything on him that he shouldn’t have and Mr. Whitmore replied, “A little weed.” Whitmore gave the deputy a small amount of marijuana.  The deputy asked Mr. Whitmore if that was all, and Mr. Whitmore advised that there was more marijuana in the console.

After asking the driver and Whitmore to step out of the vehicle.  While being frisked, Mr. Whitmore kept his hand in his jacket pocket.  The deputy asked Whitmore to remove his had from the pocket and found a baggy with suspected methamphetamine.

Whitmore told the deputy that all of the drugs were his.  He was booked into the Chattooga County Jail on marijuana possession and drug possession charges.
