Petition signers are fighting back against a proposed health facility that wants to locate a 300-plus acre campus next to Gilbert Elementary in LaFayette.Ali Lecroy started the petition on “change.org”… and already over 1,000 have signed in opposition. She has two children at Gilbert.
The Healthy Foundations Initiative fought a similar battle in Catoosa County last year, and public opposition stopped plans for a similar facility near Tiger Creek Elementary, there.
The non-profit says their plans include a research-based wellness community for veterans, youth and families… not an alcohol or drug rehab. However, their own website states that “rehabilitation from substance abuse” is part of their mission.
Local opponents say such a facility should not be located next to the elementary school on South Burnt Mill Road, just outside LaFayette. The County anticipates no zoning problems with the proposed use of the farmland.
