With one day of early voting left, over 50% of active Georgia voters have already cast ballots in the November elections. Of the 7,221,291 active registered voters eligible to vote in the November elections in Georgia, 3,708,214, or 51.35% have already cast ballots as of Friday morning. In Chattooga County, 6,761 ballots have been cast already. An unprecedented 48% of Chattooga County’s eligible active voters have already turned out to vote.

“For months, my office and our elections colleagues in county and local governments around the state urged voters to cast their ballots early to skip the long lines on Election Day and avoid crowds during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. “It is great to see so many Georgians, including the voters of Chattooga County, take advantage of our state’s many options for ballot access, including gold-standard three weeks of early voting and no excuse absentee ballot voting.”

Since the beginning of early voting, Georgia has been breaking records. So far, 3,620,178, or 50.1% of active voters have, have cast ballots so far. Total turnout so far has surged 71% over turnout at the same point before the November 2016 general election. Significantly, absentee by mail ballots cast are 598% higher than they were at the same point in 2016 and comprise 31.5% of total ballots cast as opposed to the 5-7% Georgia has seen in past elections.

Across Georgia, Greene and Oconee counties have seen the largest turnout among Georgia’s 159 counties with 68% and 67% turnout respectively. The largest number of voters to have already cast a ballot in a single precinct is in Lumpkin County, where 12,413 ballots have been cast during early voting. The highest turnout among Georgia’s 2,800 precincts is in Greene County, where 79% of eligible active voters in one precinct have already cast ballots.

In Chattooga County, 48% of Chattooga County’s 14,179 eligible active voters have already cast a ballot. Of the 6,761 ballots cast so far, 1,695 absentee by mail ballots have been cast, either through USPS or by being dropped off at an elections registrar or in an absentee ballot drop box. Another 5,066 voters have cast ballots early in-person so far, contributing to the record early, in-person turnout we’ve seen around the state and the country.
