Captain Eddie Stroup with the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department passed away early on Saturday morning.

Sheriff Mark Schrader told WZQZ News on Saturday that Stroup had been battling cancer.  The sheriff said that Captain Stroup would be greatly missed by his coworkers and that the entire department is saddened at the loss.  The sheriff also extended his condolences to Captain Stroup’s family.

Except for a short stint as head of security at Northwest Georgia Regional Hospital, Stroup had served with the sheriff’s department since 2001, according to Sheriff Schrader.  During his tenure with the sheriff’s department, Stroup had served as Patrol Captain, Chief Investigator and Jail Administrator.

WZQZ News extends our condolences to Captain Stroup’s family and to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office.
