The Chattooga County Sheriffs’ Office is ready to hand out the Christmas Baskets for their Senior Wellcheck Program.

Over the last 5 years or more, the Chattooga County Sheriffs’ Office has made Christmas a little brighter for Senior Citizens in Chattooga County. Throughout the year the Sheriffs’ office raises money to put together what they have dubbed, Christmas Baskets which includes useful items like blankets, flashlights, and batteries, as well as other things like puzzle books, and lotions. These baskets go out to those in the Senior Wellcheck Program and to the Residents of Oakview Nursing home.

Those who benefit from the program are often elderly and live along. They may have medical issues or are homebound and do not have any family close by to check on them. The Sheriffs’ Department calls and checks on these citizens throughout the year and if needed send an office out to their homes to see them.

The program is funded through donations and fundraisers held throughout the year; this year the Sheriffs’ office raffled off a kayak. They also had an influx of donations in the name of Captain Eddie Stroup, who passed away in October of this year. This enabled them to help more than 175 people.
