A much-loved and well-respected local dentist passed away from complications with COVID-19 last week.  Dr. Richard Compton had practiced in Chattooga County since 1983 when he first came to Summerville to work with Dr. Lovingood.  In 1985, Dr. Compton opened Compton Family Dentistry.

Dr. Compton attended dental school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.  While in dental school, Richard was a member of the Dental Christian Fellowship and ultimately graduated in the top ten of his class in 1983.  He worked at the Chattanooga Times throughout college and dental school, obtaining the title of Journeyman Pressman and serving as Secretary Treasurer for the Pressman’s Union.

He was also took numerous mission trips and was a deacon and later an elder at Pennville Church of Christ.

Dr. Compton’s funeral will be private, however the funeral services will be broadcast on the Pennville Church of Christ’s Facebook Page tomorrow at 2 PM.
