Firefighters were called to a fire on Christmas morning in Trion.

Volunteer fireman were dispatched to a residential structure fire on Pine Street in Trion near Simmons Street early yesterday  morning. The firemen were able to extinguish the fire quickly and keep the fire contained to a small portion of the back wall near the dryer. No injuries were reported.
Fires started in the dryer or dryer vents account for more than 2,900 fires each year. They account for a small number of deaths and over 100 injuries however they cost more than $35 million in property loss. The leading cause of home clothes dryer fires is failure to properly clean the dryer. More home clothes dryer fires occur in the fall and winter months, peaking in January.
Tips for preventing a fire caused by your home clothes dryer include cleaning out the vents entirely every 3 months, inspecting your outlets to make sure all plugs are in securely and properly, not overloading the dryer, and making sure not to run the dryer when you leave or go to bed at night.
