The Summerville News reported yesterday that the Hope Rebirth Homeless Shelter on Highland Avenue will be shutting it’s doors.

The shelter’s board of directors said that there were several reasons for closing the facility.  The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the shelter, but an even bigger factor is the shelter is not serving local residents.  Shelter officials say that while the Hope Rebirth has served hundreds of people, they have found that in recent times, the shelter has been serving more and more people who are not connected to Chattooga County.

Hope Rebirth told The Summerville News that over the past six months most of the residents have been from other cities and even from out-of-state.

You can read more about the shelter’s decision to close in this week’s edition of The Summerville News.
