One Chattooga County resident awoke to a chimney fire this past Tuesday.

On March 2nd, Deputies were dispatched to a Halls Valley address in reference to a Chimney Fire.

Upon arrival a small fire was observed coming from top of the chimney. Meeting with the Complaint/Victim,  Anita Day, Deputies learned that Day was home alone and had built the fire in her fireplace just before she went to bed. Everything was fine at this point. Day advised she was awoken by the small of something burning other that her fireplace. When she went into the living room and looked at the fire place,  she knew something was wrong.

Looking outside revealed a fire at the top of her chimney  and she immediately dialed 911.Day put the fire out inside the fireplace and shut the damper/vent off on the fire place.

Fire Station 12, Station 4, and Station 9 arrived on scene and extinguished the fire.
