The Walker County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement on Wednesday afternoon after the passing of a longtime employee.  See the full statement below:

The Walker County Sheriff’s Office family is saddened to announce the passing of Sgt. Donald “Donny” Phillips, Badge #58, after an extended illness.
In a FaceBook comment posted by his wife, “Donny was escorted by angels last evening to the feet of Jesus.”
Sgt. Phillips’ law enforcement career spanned over 42 years; he began his career with WCSO in 1989. He served in every rank, beginning as a deputy sheriff, corporal, sergeant, lieutenant and Captain.
His current position was the evidence custodian in the detective division.
He served with the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office, Rossville Police Department and Ft. Oglethorpe Police Department.
Visitation will be Thursday March 25th from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Wilson’s Funeral Home, Ft. Oglethorpe, Georgia and the funeral service will be Friday 1:00 PM March 26th in the funeral home chapel.
