The Chattooga River fell below flood stage after cresting at over eighteen feet on Friday.  Flood stage is fourteen feet at the measuring station located on the Chattooga River Bridge near The Summerville News office on Highway 27.  As of 5:45 AM on Saturday the river was over eleven feet.   Swollen creeks and tributaries to the Chattooga River from the massive amounts of rain over the past several days has caused flooding issues and more rain is on the way.

Chattooga County Public Works has closed a portion of Tate Road in the northwestern part of the county due to a tile collapse that left the road impassible.  Other flooding issues caused problems in other parts of the county, including downtown Summerville.

The National Weather Service says that more rain is on the way and because of the saturated ground and amount of water in local creeks and streams, we could face more flooding issues headed into next week.
