A local woman reported that she was the victim of a scam to Chattooga County Sheriff Deputies over the weekend.

Rebecca Groce reported to Deputies that she had received a phone call from someone identifying himself as James Wilson who told her that she needed to call a specific phone number regarding the Amazon app on her laptop. Groce stated that she called the number and after giving information about her Acer laptop, she was told the person on the other end of the line was going to take control of her computer to remove the Amazon app.

When Groce tried to use the laptop sometime later, it was no longer working. She took the laptop to the computer repair shop in Summerville.
