The Chattooga County Sheriffs Department has been called over confrontations regarding gas prices this week.

On Tuesday, longer lines were beginning to be commonplace at area gas stations and by Wednesday, the price of gas had jumped over 20-cents-per gallon.

Deputies were called to the Great Way Food Mart after a motorist got into a verbal confrontation with the store clerk over gas prices.

While supply and demand will likely cause an increase in fuel costs over the next several days, price gouging is illegal in Georgia.   Instead of a verbal confrontation with a store clerk, the best thing to do is to call the Georgia Emergency Communications Authority (GECA) if you have a complaint about fuel costs or suspect price gouging.
