Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry says that a new recycling program that has been started by the county sanitation department will help to keep electronics with hazardous components out of landfills.

Commissioner Elsberry said on Tuesday that the county is working with a recycling company that will take office electronics, office furniture, DVD’s, fax machines, telephones and copiers at no cost to the county.  This will save the county money on landfill dumping fees.

According to the commissioner, public works has already set up a place to take the recyclable items and within the next week or so , there will be receptacles provided by the recycling company.

Commissioner Elsberry said that in addition to the cost savings to the county, the new recycling effort is “good stewardship.”
