Hit and runs seem to be the theme of the week, with multiple cases being reported by local law enforcement over the last week.

Officers from both the Chattooga County Sheriffs officer and the Summerville Police Department have reported separate hit and run accidents, with two of them happening to parked vehicles.

Summerville Police responded to a call to Ingles parking lot where they met with Charles Thrasher. Thrasher reported that he had been inside Ingles shopping and when he exited he noticed damage to his vehicle. Officers noted damage to the front, passenger bumper that was consistent with being struck by another vehicle. No witnesses were found, and so a report was placed on file.

Across town, the Chattooga County Sheriffs Office reported that they were called to Wal-Mart where they met with Stacy Warren who stated that when she exited from shopping that her vehicle was damaged. The entire passenger side sustained damage that looked like another vehicle had scrapped along the side of it while backing out. The incident was caught on the Wal-Mart security cameras, however the tag or type of vehicle was not able to be made out.

A hit and run is considered a misdemeanor at the very least and can carry up to a $1,000 fine. In more serious accidents it is considered a felony and imprisonment of up to five years.
