In a 4-0 vote last Thursday, the Chattooga Board of Education voted to move forward with plans for a new school in Menlo. 

Noticeably absent from last week’s vote was Dr. Julia Houston, who has opposed a new school for Menlo students in several votes over the past few months.  Board Members B.J. Montgomery, Lyn Hall, Brad Hayes and Board Chairman Eddie Eslberry all voted in favor.

Chairman Elsberry told WZQZ News, “I am excited to get this project started very soon with an aggressive timeline for completion.”

The board approved the architectural services contract for the new school at Menlo from Southern A&E, LLC.

The school facilities at Menlo are the oldest in Chattooga County, with some portions of the building dating back over eight decades.
