Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said last Thursday that Northwest Georgia saw a decrease in its unemployment rate for April.
“We had another strong month in April,” said Commissioner of Labor Mark Butler. “We saw the unemployment rate decrease in every region and county, along with an over the month and over the year decrease in initial claims for nearly every region and country.”

In Northwest Georgia, the unemployment rate decreased by 0.2 percentage points, bringing the rate to 3.2 percent.

According to the data from the Department of Labor, in April, Chattooga County had 114 unemployment claims.  That was down from 136 claims the previous month.  The numbers were much better than they were this time last year during the COVID pandemic.  In April of 2020, there were 709 unemployment claims.
