A quarrel between a couple leads to a report of a stolen car when the man refused to give the vehicle back.
According to reports from the Chattooga County Sheriffs office, Deputies responded to a call of a domestic dispute with a motor vehicle theft. Arriving on scene the met with Alexis Reed who reported that she had been trying to leave the residence however her boyfriend was preventing her from doing so. Deputies did observe several packed bags outside of the house with Reed. Reed also told Deputies that her boyfriend, Dakota Smith had told her the only way she could leave was to walk down the road and call for a ride. Reed tried to do so and that is when Smith took off with her vehicle and her phone. According to Reed the vehicle was in her name and her name only and she did not give permissions for Smith to take it.
Deputies took Reed and her small child to the Express Inn where a room was provided and the next day, Investigators contacted Smiths Probation Officer in a retrieval effort. After explaining the situation, the Probation officer managed to contact Dakota Smith who was told that if he did not return the vehicle on that day, that two warrants would be taken out for his arrest. One for theft and one for probation violation. Smith then agreed to return the vehicle and be peaceful about it. Sometime later Alexis Reed did let Investigators know that the vehicle had been returned, however it was returned without keys. Reed was going to explore options on finding the keys and the case has been closed.
