A local real estate agent is the victim of an online identity theft scam, that is leaving others scammed of their money.
According to reports from the Chattooga County Sheriffs Office, real estate agent Joanna Jackson is the victim of identity fraud. Jackson told Deputies that she realized there was an issue after multiple people contacted her regarding rental property listings on Facebook Marketplace. According to Jackson she does not have any rental properties at this time.
Jackson was able to find the listings and the perpetrator is using her picture and name to list houses that have already been sold or is currently listed and are putting them up as available for rent. A victim of the scam, Kolby Croft contacted Jackson to let her know that the perpetrator is asking for an application and a $50 application fee, and then blocking the applicants after the fee has been confirmed as received. The $50 is being sent to a CashApp under $JoannaJackson.
