Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry says that the county is faced with a brush problem.  In the past, the county has hired local crews to come in and grind up brush at the Highway 27 dump site where the county receives brush, limbs, stumps and tree debris.

Commissioner Eslberrry says that the problem the county is facing is because most of the companies that were doing the grinding of the material are faced with employee shortages and are not currently providing the services.  Elsberry said that the county is taking some of the debris to a place in Coosa and the county is also disposing of some of it at the landfill.

The commissioner said that the cost for the county to purchase its own chipper could exceed $1 million.

For the time being, the commissioner said there is no change to the county’s policy about receiving the debris, but there may need to be some changes made in the future.
