Authorities in Lafayette believe that an overnight fire could have been the work of arsonists.

Firefighters and police in Lafayette responded to the call to a two-story house on West Simmons Street to an unoccupied home.  The house, which is located behind the Dari Dip in Lafayette, had no power and the owner lives in South Carolina.

Firefighters on the scene said that the fire appeared to have been started on both levels of the home.  Green flames were noted which could indicate the presence of an accelerant.

The call came in shortly before 1 AM this morning.

The Georgia State Fire Marshall has been called in to investigate.
