A man accused of luring a 15-year-old girl to LaGrange was booked into the Floyd County Jail on Friday after being transferred from Troup County.

Tracy Bernard Mclemore, 44, of 1435 Hamilton Road, LaGrange, is charged with child molestation, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, interference with custody and enticing a child for indecent purposes. 

Mclemore has been listed on the Georgia Sex Offender Registry since 2009 for a 2005 incident in Alabama.

Police aren’t sure how or where the two met or how she got to LaGrange.

 Lafayette Police made three arrests for thefts this past week, one involving a foot chase before the suspect was apprehended.

Two men were arrested for a burglary at the Murphy Gas Station at Walmart in Lafayette.  It happened between 3 and 5 p.m. Thursday. The suspects allegedly stole several outside security cameras, then broke out a window and snatched cigarettes from inside the business. Total dollar amount was around $2,100. However, the two men missed one security camera and it recorded the entire incident. 

22-year-old Justin Allen Simmons returned to the Walmart lot later in the day and was spotted by Murphy employees. Police arrested his there. Later, they found 31-year-old Jerome Ace Deering at the Pear-Pine Mobile Home Park. Both are charged with felony burglary.

In another incident, a man was stopped by ShopRite employees, accused of taking some items. When police arrived, 23-year-old Nick Allen Curtis was escorted outside and placed under arrest. While being frisked, Curtis reportedly bolted and ran.

He was chased by the arresting officer and a Shoprite bag boy. He was caught a minute later at the Trade Day on West Villanow. Curtis was charged with shoplifting and escape.

Seafood production has started at Real Bright Sunrae, located in the former Barwick Archer Plant at Kensington, in Walker County.

It has been reported that the company has filled two of it's giant tanks and gotten it's first shipment of fish to stock them. 

 The company will use large tanks build inside the plant to raise several kinds of fish and shrimp, as food products.

A LaGrange man has been charged with enticing a child for indecent purposes after a missing 15-year-old Rome girl was found with him early Thursday morning.

Rome police Lt. Gary Clayton says 44-year-old Tracy Bernard Mclemore was arrested at his Hamilton Road home in LaGrange.

Mclemore has been listed on the Georgia Sex Offender Registry since 2009 for a 2005 incident in Alabama.

Clayton said the girl was not hurt. He said police aren’t sure how or where the two met or how she got to LaGrange.

Police knew to look for the girl in LaGrange because of “some information we gained at her house when she left, citizens’ input and a whole lot of really good police work,” Clayton said.

She had been missing since 8 a.m. Wednesday when she left 5 Pineway Drive, in Rome,  to go to school.

A Troup County Jail official said Mclemore was booked there Thursday and is being held for another agency.

Floyd County Sheriff's Department officials are waiting on information about the arrest of the wife of former Chattooga County Sheriff John Everett. Tracey Everett works for the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office. She turned herself in to the Chattooga County Jail this week on a charge of disorderly conduct.

Floyd County Chief Deputy Tom Caldwell said he is aware of the charge against Tracey Everett but is waiting for information about the arrest before a decision is made on any action. 

Everett was involved in an incident at the Summerville Walmart where she allegedly argued to excess with two people in front of children.

She turned herself in on Tuesday and was released on her own recognizance, according to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office.

Summerville voters will get vote on liquor and the Trion Council will get to decide if businesses will have the option of pouring beer and wine.

Those are two local decisions that will soon be made concerning alcoholic beverages in towns in Chattooga County.

It's a far cry from just a few years ago, when liquor wasn't even available in the county and the only place you could buy beer or wine was by the unopened continer in convenience stores.

On March 19th Summerville voters will decide in a special election if they want to allow businesses to sell liquor by the drink in city restaurants.

In February, Trion council members are expected to decide if they will offer beer and wine pouring licenses. According to councilman Lanny Thomas, town attorney Chris Corbin is working on an ordinance. Trion doesn't have to bring the measure before voters and the council can decide, according to Thomas. Right now, the council is looking for feedback from Trion residents in making that decision.

Summerville City Council members voted unamimously earlier this year to put the issue on the ballot. The special election is expected to cost the City of Summerville between $500 and $1000. 

Floyd County got to try out it's new countywide new countywide radio system Friday with it its first real test and passed with flying colors.

The  ability to communicate proved key in organizing for the search and rescue of a 65-year-old woman lost in the dense forest near Huffaker Road and Woods Road. 

The new system allowed agencies to talk directly with each other without having to go through 911.

Before the new system was put in place, searchers from different agencies would have to relay messages through 911 dispatch.

In this case, the Rome Police Department, Floyd County EMA and Floyd County Sheriff’s Posse were all in the field searching for the missing woman. 

All of the agencies were called out around 3:30 a.m. Friday, and the woman was found at approximately 10:45 a.m. She was taken to the hospital for treatment for exposure.

The 2009 special purpose, local option sales tax package contained $26.7 million to build the new communications system.

There's been a lot of talk about gun laws since a shooter killed 20 children at a Connecticut elementary school in December. So far in the Georgia Capitol, there's been little action.

A spokesman for Gov. Nathan Deal and House Speaker David Ralston say GOP leaders won't allow any new gun restrictions to be adopted.

But they also haven't endorsed proposals from other, less powerful Republicans to lift restrictions on where Georgians can carry their weapons.

Ralston has expressed some interest in a proposal from Rep. Paul Battles to let local school boards designate administrators who can carry guns on campus. The proposal would leave the decision up to the school board and the chosen administrators would have to get weapons training.

Trion Superintendent Eddy Willingham has been appointed to a taslk force that will represent the Georgia State Inspectors Association (GSIA).

The GSIA is a task force appointed by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs  to review the 2012 International Mechanical Code. The task force will make recommendations to the State Codes Advisory Committee. 

Willingham's first meeting will be February 19 in Atlanta/ 

The Town of Trion wants to known with Trion residents feel about a proposed  wine and beer pouring license.

Councilman Lanny Thomas says the town have been approached about the ordinance by people interested in re-opening the Tavern Restaurant. 

Thomas said a wine and beer pouring ordinance could open up possibilities for that restaurant and possibly others.

Town attorney Chris Corbin is writing up a proposed ordinance for the council to consider. In the meantime, the council wants feedback from the community.
