A Summerville man reported that when he went to pick up his check at the Summerville McDonald's, not only was his check not there but it had been cashed at a local bank. 

According to the report by the Chattooga County Sheriff's Department, Alex Brunache, of a Martin Street, Summerville address was no longer working at the fast food restaurant but did go to pick up his last check on January 5. The incident reportedly occurred between December 26 and January 6.  Brunache said when he went to get his final check he was told that it had already been picked up and someone had cashed it . Brunache said he doesn't have an account with that bank and believes another employee stole his check, or that it was misplaced by another employee. 

A a  burglary was reported at Burger King on Highway 27 in Summerville on January 6.

According to the report by the Chattooga County Sheriff's Department , the day shift manager Jeremy Sloan reported that when he arrived at the fast-food eatery that morning to open the store, he discovered that the back door had been left open and the drive-thru window had been left unlocked. He said when he approached the office he found that the door to the office was open and the safe was unlocked. All of the loose bills reportedly were missing from the safe and loose change in the drawers reportedly missing , which is estimated to be at about $1200. Sloan also reported that several bags of frozen chicken and two bags of frozen meat patties were lying on the floor outside the freezer. According to the report muddy footprints were found leading from the drive-thru area to the back of the store near the door. No other evidence was discovered. The incident has been turned over to investigators, according to the report.

A Back Berryton Road resident reported on December 28 that a laptop computer was stolen from their home. John David Tapp told the Chattooga County Sheriff's Department that when he returned home that day the Dell Laptop and a charger. The computer reportedly was taken from the bedroom, while the charger had been in the living room.   The report does not indicate that anything else was stolen from the home.

In it's regular monthly meeting Tuesday night the Lyerly Council discussed the projects it would like to include on the ballot come March. Voters will vote on the measure this year, but the actual tax doesn't begin until 2014, when the current SPLOST ends. Mayor Josh Wyatt said he kept the language broad in case something comes up later in case the town comes up with more projects for the funds.

In other business the council discussed a project that would produce a sidewalk to the park. Wyatt said the town is eligible for almost $6,000 in L-MIG funds. L-MIG is the former DOT LARK Paving Grant. It is a local maintenance and improvement grant. The amount of funding received is based on the linear foot of street in the city limits. Wyatt said the amount is probably not enough to complete the project but he was told to get a cost estimate and preliminary drawing to the DOT.

Hunters are invited to a public hearing Tuesday on hunting seasons and regulations at the Walker County Civic Center at Rock Spring. It's one of eight public hearings sponsored by the Wildlife Resources Division of the State DNR.

John Bowers of the Game Management Sections says, We're seeking input that simplifies regulations, encourages hunting and maximizes opportunity."

The meeting is open to all Northwest Georgia Residents. It's Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 7 p.m. at the Walker County Civic Center.

The Town of Lyerly Council will meet tonight at 7 p.m. at the Lyerly City Town Hall in it's regularly scheduled monthly meeting. The  Lyerly Council is expected to discuss it's list for the upcoming SPLOST vote, according to Mayor Josh Wyatt.

Three Chattooga County residents died in two separate accidents, both in other counties, on Friday.

Friday morning, brothers Mason Greene, 12, and Zach Greene, 6, of Summerville (Gore Community), were killed after the SUV their mother was driving crashed into a tractor-trailer at the intersection of GA 136 and U.S. 411 in Murray County.

A memorial fund has been set up by Gordon County to help the family.  The father of the boys, Marshall Greene, is a Gordon County firefighter.

Marshall Greene's wife, underwent surgery at Erlanger and is listed in stable condition.

Donations may be made at Northside Bank in Calhoun, (corner of Hwy, 53E and Lovers Lane Rd.) to the Zach & Mason Greene Memorial Fund, s/o Marshall Greene.

Aaron Michael Dooley, of Summerville, was killed Friday afternoon when his vehicle, which was traveling northbound on Highway 27 in Walker County, crossed over into the southbound lane and hit another vehicle. 

 Funeral services for 30-year-old Dooley are at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home. A Memorial Scholarship Fund at United Community Bank has been set up in honor of Dooley.
