Faculty and staff at Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) have nominated four of their peer instructors for the Rick Perkins Award of Excellence in Technical Instruction competition.

Chattooga County’s land use ordinance, adopted hastily last year by Commissioner Blake Elsberry, is still not being enforced – even though it is almost a year old. Commissioner Elsberry has appointed a commission to oversee the implementation of the ordinance, but the committee is still revising the original ordinance that Elsberry adopted.

Fourteenth Congressional District Congresswoman Marjory Taylor Greene has received two committee assignments.

A 20-year-old Kingston man was arrested Tuesday at his Fulton Road home on a felony warrant charging him with aggravated cruelty to animals.

A twenty-year-old Rome woman was arrested in Summerville on Sunday of this week after she was found to be in possession of marijuana. According to a report from the Summerville Police Department, police responded to a domestic dispute at the Summerville Garden apartments. While talking with the people at the apartment about the domestic situation, an officer could smell burnt marijuana. After inquiring about the smell, someone told the officer that Lexington Fisher was in possession of marijuana. When the officer spoke with Ms. Fisher, she at first denied it saying that all she had was some cigarillos. When the officer asked Fisher to see the package of cigarillos, he found one containing suspected marijuana. Fisher was transported to the Chattooga County Jail on charges of marijuana possession, less than one ounce.

Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton told WZQZ News that mobile home tax bills will start arriving in mailboxes across the county sometime toward the end of next week. Mobile home taxes can be paid in person at the Chattooga County tax office.

The Chattooga County Board of Education will hold their first meeting of the new year, with three new board members, tonight at 6 PM. The meeting will be held at the Chattooga County Education Center on Penn Street in Summerville. The meeting is open to the public. You can see the agenda for tonight’s meeting below:

Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader says that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is still gathering information about an inmate death at the Chattooga County Jail in December of last year.
