The U.S. Department of Labor received an A+ on the Small Business Administration’s recently announced Fiscal Year 2019 Small Business Federal Procurement Scorecard, marking the third straight year the Department has received the scorecard’s highest grade.
Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters issued a proclamation on Tuesday ordering on flags at county buildings to be flown at half-staff until the burial of Chattooga County Probate Judge Jon Payne. Also, the commissioner says that there will be a box placed outside the main entrance to the courthouse where the public can leave cards and condolences. The commissioner has also ordered that a wreath be placed in Judge Payne’s memory at the courthouse in Summerville.

Chattooga County Probate Judge Jon Payne passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, August 18, 2020. Judge Payne had been hospitalized for several weeks after contracting COVID-19.
As college students prepare to head back to campus in the next few weeks, and COVID-19 precautions are taking center stage, fighting fraud may not be at the top of their list of priorities. However, college students are very susceptible to identity theft; by establishing good habits for monitoring and detecting fraud, students can lay a path for healthy financial practices for the rest of their lives.
Chattooga Nutrition announced on their Facebook page that the Senior Center will be reopening on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 AM -11 AM for bingo and exercise. On those two days, the Senior Center will be open from 9 AM until 11 AM only. Bingo and Exercise will start at 9:30 on those days to give people time to get there. The Senior Center is limited to fifteen people inside the center on those days.
Georgia gas prices increased slightly at the pump compared to a week ago. Georgia motorists are now paying an average price of $1.98 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline. Monday’s state average is 1 cent more than a week ago, 3 cents less than last month, and 50 cents less than this time last year.
The Rome News Tribune reported on Monday that Floyd County commissioners approved a contract with Wings Over North Georgia for their annual air show this year, which will most likely be a drive-in event.
