The Rome/Floyd County Sewer Division said that two major sewage spills were reported on Tuesday as a result of the large amount of rain that has fallen this week.
Approximately 7,500 gallons of sewage went into a tributary leading to Silver Street near East 17th Street at Crane Street, and another spill of about 8,000 gallons into a tributary leading to Silver Creek near North Avenue at Tolbert Street.

County woman Linda Cash was targeted in a scam to get her personal information last week, according to records from the county sheriff’s office.
Cash met with a county deputy at the sheriff’s office, where she told him that a man called her, and said that his name was Robert and gave her his “badge number”. He then pressured Cash, insisting that he had evidence that she was selling drugs through 20 different bank accounts, and that he would call the FBI unless she gave him her Social Security Number.
Cash realized what had happened and hung up the phone. She informed her bank of the incident and then called the police. Cash was told by the deputy that if any of her money went missing, she should bring bank statements to the sheriff’s office.

At last night’s meeting of the Summerville City Council, the council voted to approve the contract for newly-hired city manager Janice Galloway retroactive to November 1, 2018.
The contract is for one-year with the option to renew and compensates Mrs. Galloway with $82,000. She will have a city car and computer.
The motion was made by councilman Earl Parris, seconded by David Ford, and the vote passed unanimously.

The newly-elected memebers of the Chattooga County Board of Education will be sworn in at the Board Meeting in January.
The meeting will be held on January 17th, 2019 at the Chattooga County Education Center, located at 206 Penn Street, Summerville, GA 30747.
The new board-members are Brad Hayes, Julia Houston, and Sammy Ballard. They are replacing outgoing board-members Alma Lewis, Larry Weesner, and Eddie Massey, respectively.
